Facebook’s new design on IE6 – Doesn’t Exist

My buddy Brian went to view the new Facebook design on IE6 on his computer at work.  The problem, it won’t load!  He got a funny message from Facebook telling him that they are not cool enough to support his browser.  Check out the photo he grabbed with his phone and sent to me.  I had to share this, because it means that either Facebook needs to become backwards compatible with their new design or he just needs to upgrade his browser :)

What are your thoughts?

Cheers!

i think this is a great step in the right direction. Just like php4, we need to just move forward and just ditch the old technology. Being a developer myself, i cringe at the thought of having to test under ie6. With a big company like Facebook dropping the support for ie6 is like a sweet christmas gift for us developers. The trend will be followed.

Our software company no longer supports IE6. We find supporting this browser adds 30-40% of time to our production process for sites built on the Smallbox CMS platform. It’s about time that the world moves on and upgrades.

That’s fantastic! Hopefully if Facebook forces people to upgrade we can start to ignore IE6, which just causes *so* many problems.

It’s funny that Internet Explorer isn’t even listed as a browser that you can “keep it real with.”

Since Facebook has big money now, they can do this. Lets say you have a company and 10 – 20% of your users use IE6 (even 5%), would you turn your users away. Think of all the revenue you would lose.

Personally, I wouldn’t be so rude but it is funny. I would nudge them in the right direction but this anti-M$ is ridiculous.

If it wasn’t for M$, some of these people who spent their money on the these companies wouldn’t. Remember when 90% of the people used windows and spent thousands on all these anti M$ companies?

    Remember, Karma is a bitch.

Hurray for facebook! Another big step against IE6.. great!
Either you’re using IE6 because you have a illegal version of Windows (why should a website support that?), or you’re at work and have lame sysops (and you shouldn’t use facebook at work anyhow).
