I was contacted for "winning" a macbook pro on a promotion that had just started "today". I thought it was to good to be true and started google searching and found your blog. Thank you for the info. I found another site that listed the e mail address as a habitual scammer on craigs list. Thank you.

OK, so I am dealing with someone right now on Craig's List - it sounds like the same SCAM thing. I am in Maryland - her name is Jane and she originally seemed to be from Manchester but then today I got a legitamate e-mail with her full name and two e-mail address - one is her work and one a hotmail account.
How do I find out if this is legitamate? Anyone know. I am new to the Craig's List world.

Watch out for Bianca Genovese - email bianca.genovese@hotmail.com - The email went directly to my spam folder, I wonder why.

Here is the email I was sent back:

Hi,

The MacBook Pro is still available, but I'm currently in London, United Kingdom. Because of the financial crisis, I lost my job in United States and I had to come back to my family.
I don't need the laptop anymore so I tried to sell it locally, but with no luck. I was offered silly money for the laptop because of issues like - it is a US version or the warranty doesn't work here or that it has a US keyboard format. That's why I'm trying my luck in the US.
I hope you are still interested. The laptop was bought brand new from Apple a 10 weeks ago. I have attached some pics with it to this email.
About the laptop I can say it is 10 weeks old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $580 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.
The laptop is here with me in UK.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're really interested in buying it.

Thanks,
Bianca Genovese

I noticed a very similar ad today in the Seattle craigslist. This person's name is Sarah Maynard (sare.bear1980@hotmail.com) and her response to me was identical, said she was about to take it down because of an error in the ad & must have scrolled the mouse wheel on accident. She did give me a serial number to look up and verify the specs on the powerbook pro 17" but she had no way to send pics. She called me on the phone, (phone number is located in Louisianna) and she gave me info about using Netspend and an 800 number to speak to them to verify it's legitimacy. I called the # she gave and it was a direct line (amazing!) to a guy in Provo Utah who seemed to know exactly what i wanted to know and explained how i would be protected sending money this way. Sounded pretty convincing, except I looked up Netspend and their customer service number is entirely different, they're located in Texas. It was fishy from the beginning - but glad i found this thread to confirm.

thank god for google and this message board....here is my emails from her(actually she sent 3, last one with just pics). You can also purchase 2 more years of Applecare warranty.
I tried to be a thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
I have used the laptop mostly for internet browsing and presentations, so I would say it has been only lightly used.
The laptop has the Leopard 10.6 OS, the iLife 09 and the MS Office 2008 with the original recovery disks included.
One more thing, the laptop is an US version and it works on the US power and plug system so you do not need a converter to use it in the US.

I will send an email shortly with the complete specs and some photos so you can see the condition.

Get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop and you wish to buy it.

Thanks,
Laura

from	Laura Owens <laura.owens29@hotmail.com>
sender-time	Sent at 7:57 AM (GMT+03:00).
