Great Season of Doctor Who!
Posted on: June 27, 2010 at 6:11 am | Posted under: Entertainment, TelevisionTags: BBC, Doctor Who, Karen Gillan, Matt Smith | Comments: View Comments

The newest season of Doctor Who came to and end last night with the thirteenth episode ‘The Big Bang’. While the episode was the continuation of the week prior, it really brought the entire season to a great close and wrapped up the story in a nice bow :)
While the season is still running in the United States, I will not go into any details of the episode. This post is about the entire season as a whole and how well the new actors brought the story of the time lord to a new level.
Matt Smith, who had the honor of playing the eleventh incarnation of The Doctor, did a superb job. I had my doubts when it was first announced that he would be taking the role. I felt that his age would hinder him from really performing as this great character and following the in footsteps of the very talented David Tennant. Smith was able to make the role his as he donned some very retro attire and he really brought the character to a new level and helped to add a new dimension to The Doctor. It took some getting used to, but after a few episodes I started to enjoy Smith’s quirkiness and how he was able to command The Doctor’s presence in any situation. Given the many dramatic moments from previous seasons that Tennant had powerful monologues, I wasn’t sure if Smith was going to be able to pull this off – I was wrong, he certainly did.
Karen Gillan, the fiery Scottish actress that took on the role of Amy Pond, was just a delight to watch. Gillan light up the screen every week with her smile and attitude and gave The Doctor a challenge when it came time to sit still. I wasn’t sure about Gillan at first either, but the chemistry between her and Smith certainly gave the show a new dynamic and had me coming back for more each week. I hope that Gillan returns in the next season, but only time will tell.
Overall, the new season was amazing. From the re-branding of the franchise to the inclusion of old enemies and friends, the 2010 season of Doctor Who was certainly one that I will remember.
I am really looking forward to Christmas for the special and can’t wait to see what is in store!
Cheers!
David Cook wins Idol!
Posted on: May 21, 2008 at 11:46 pm | Posted under: Entertainment, TelevisionTags: American Idol, David Archuleta, David Cook, Summize, Twitter | Comments: View Comments
Well, in the final seconds of my TiVo recording of American Idol, Ryan Seacrest announced David Cook the winner of American Idol. I am not surprised by this result whatsoever. I think that America woke up and realized who the better performer was and voted that way.
The only reason I am writing this post is because I am sick of hearing people on twitter complain about how David Cook is a cookie cutter rock musician (@jeffmccord) or that the wrong David won. The right David won this competition. The last thing we need is a 17 year old with an overbearing father trying to handle the pressures of being an American Idol.
I was on Summize this evening watching all of the ‘AI’ related tweets come in. A lot of people are happy with the results, some were displeased, and the west coasters were pissed over the fact that everyone here in the east was ruining it for them. Given that the show is done live in LA, why is it not shown live on the west coast too? I never understood that about television networks, go figure.
Well, both Davids have a lot of work ahead of them. I see 19 going to option both of their contracts, which will result in working with great writers and producers. The only problem is trying to package Archuleta. He has a magical voice, but where do you stick him? Cook will be easy to package – ROCK.
Overall, it was a great season of American Idol. Lots of controversy, a talented group of performers, Simon’s shirts got smaller, Paula seemed more loopy than usual, and the producers found more ways to waste time on the results shows.
Do you have any thoughts on American Idol and the results? Leave a comment below.
Cheers!
Battle of the Davids

Tonight’s final performance episode of American Idol was one of the best that I have seen so far. Both David Cook and David Archuleta are deserving of being in the final two. All season long both contestants have performed at a higher caliber than the others and that was evident tonight.
David Cook is amazingly talented and has the voice of this generation, my generation. His vocal performances are amazing and always manage to surprise me at every show. He is destined to go far, even if he does not win tomorrow night. American Idol is about talent, and to put it simply, he has it.
David Archuleta is a very gifted adolescent that has proved himself to be a contender in this competition. He has a large following of teen & tween girls, and given his age this is no surprise. I do not see him being able to handle the pressures that will come after this competition is over. His father is always meddling in what he sings and was even banned by the producers from working with David. That is saying a lot, given how lenient Nigel Lythgoe is with what happens behind the scenes. After having dinner with some friends earlier tonight, they said that this whole issue may have ruined things for David.
Now I am one to believe that America’s votes do not have the final say in who is eliminated each week or who will win this season. If you have watched the show regularly all season, then you will know that certain contestants were eliminated at key times, mostly stemming from controversy with something from their past or behind the scenes. I have my theories about this, and I may be totally wrong. Conspiracies are fun :)
Ok, let me wrap this up. David Cook should be the next American Idol, he is the voice of this generation and has more talent than the competition. Archuleta doesn’t have the maturity to handle this competition and his family is ruining things for him.
Tomorrow night will reveal our American Idol, and I hope it’s David Cook.
Cheers!
When Customer Service Ends & Frustration Begins
Posted on: April 30, 2008 at 4:23 am | Posted under: Entertainment, Life, ShoppingTags: circuit city, customer service, madonna | Comments: View Comments
Tuesday is always a big day for music and movies. Yesterday I went out to run errands with a friend of mine and he wanted to pick up the new Madonna album – ‘Hard Candy’. Our search for the album started at Target, where they only had the basic version of the album. I mentioned to my friend that there is a special edition of the album that comes in a box set with a booklet and even candy. So we went to Best Buy, and due to a shipping error they did not have the special edition. After running around to some other stores (not for the album), we went to Circuit City. This is where things went downhill.
The associate at Circuit City had no idea that there was a new album. She walked around like a moron looking for it in their very small music section. She asked other associates about it and they had no idea either. My friend was pretty upset about this, considering that there has been buzz about the new album and it is a known fact that it would be out on April 29.
It seems that Circuit City doesn’t care about their customers and this is evident when they cannot even properly educate or train them. I just don’t understand. I used to like that store, but it has gone downhill. Most items don’t have prices on them, sections are in disarray, and the store has about three employees on the floor at any given time. I am completely dissatisfied with the level of customer service that Circuit City offers and what happened yesterday was the last straw.
Customer service is vital in any business, whether it be a physical or online store. Keep your customers happy and they will keep coming back. Frustrate them by not knowing what is going on and you will lose their business for good. Circuit City has lost two customers after yesterday.
Cheers!
